You have been asked by a client to design and build a small ecommerce store such as Market Quarter. I want you to prepare an outline budget for such a project.

Here is a worksheet in MS Word and PDF formats: Activity 8 Worksheet (26 KB) Activity 8 Worksheet (45 KB)

For each of the following tasks below estimate how long it would take a trained professional to complete the work and how much they are likely to charge per day.

Work out the cost of each task and make notes of any assumptions you are making such as the number of pages, products or the complexity of the system. Calculate the total budget required (not including software, hardware or partner costs)

You are likely to find some parts of the budget difficult so make sensible estimates or use your experience from other projects.

Please assume that your team is trying to make a reasonable profit on this project. Include in your assumptions what you would consider to be a reasonable profit.

  1. Graphical design and branding work including any Flash components
  2. Information architecture: designing the customer journeys and modeling products/categories
  3. Designing Decision support/customer support areas of the site
  4. Wireframes and xHTML templates for pages on the site
  5. Creation of CSS style sheets
  6. Implementation inside CMS or store builder (such as Shopify) or using PHP/MySQL

  8. Copywriting, photography and data entry
  9. Integration with stock control and ordering systems
  10. Testing
