What are the essential tools that every IT person should have in the modern IT world? That is the idea behind a new Kingston University module called IT Toolbox. Over a 12 week semester, first year students will be guided through a series of activities such as blogging, running a server, client and server side scripting, search, social networking and problem solving. Each of those activities will be published here and anyone is welcome to join in.

Happy New Year!

Here is an updated document of all the completed activities we have received up until midnight last night.

I am sorry that the last summary had a few missing items. This was due to a data exporting problem from Survey Gizmo.

Please can you check the new list and send me an email if you have completed activities which are not listed here.

If you are missing a single activity please check to see if there is a Knumber that is very similar to yours that has only one activity. If there is send me an email with a copy of your receipt and I will make the adjustment.

The deadline for your final submissions is midnight on the 7th of January and if you have 6 or 7 parts already completed then it is worth getting the final few completed.

Here is the new list: Toolbox Summary (43 KB)

A further update will be published on the 8th and those of you who need to take the exam will be informed by the 10th.

I have gone over the figures in the new spreadsheet and found a few people who have entered the wrong (or different) knumbers against their names.

Can you please check your receipts and if you find you have used two different knumbers please let me know and I will add the two sets of marks together.

Here it is again incase it didnt go through last time...

when is the final deadline for the activities?
how do we check if they have all gone through properly or not?
how do we contact you if they haven't?

Jonathan replies: Final deadline: January 7th midnight
If you have a receipt they have gone through properly
Email me after the 10th with a copy of your receipts if an activity is missing (you almost certainly typed the wrong knumber).

Hey Jonathan,
I completed activity 5.2 during the holidays but did not receive a receipt for it. And after the update to the pdf file above it shows I haven't completed it. I'm guessing I will have to do the activity again?

Jonathan replies: I'm afraid so

hi jonathan i am currently trying to complete as much activites as i possibly can by tomorrow, i was on holiday and i thought the deadline was the 11th of january but i guess i was misinformed i will try to get as much done as possible by tomorrow, also i just completed activity 5.1 but i accidentally pressed enter as i was on the last question and it got submitted what should i do ?

Jonathan replies: The deadline has been clearly stated I am afraid and I cannot extend it. Remember that you can do any activities in any order. As far as 5.1 is concerned you can submit it again or hope that you have done enough to pass the quality control check. You have until midnight tomorrow and I will not (in reality) check until the morning.
